Knowing the Difference
Moisturizing! I love it, because somehow, beyond cleansing or even styling its truly an act of self-care. What is more luxurious than spending time on an extra step just because it will enhance and or just make you feel really good?
When we think of extra-step/indulgent haircare, most of us look to those little packs or tubs marked mask or deep conditioner. But what is the difference? Are these products the same thing with different labels? What about the combo name… you know “Deep Conditioning Mask” TRICKY!!! Don’t you hate when the marketers do that?
Tousled helps you understand the difference between a hair mask and a deep conditioner.
Here’s the quick and dirty:
Masks strengthen and seal (usually a protein-based formula)
Deep conditioners soften and moisturize
Simple right? Well, read those labels to properly determine whether you're getting a deep conditioner posing as a mask. Or a real mask. Again, those dashed marketing people can be so tricky!
Tousled recommends the following just for you!
Hair type 1 – Fekkai PrX Reparatives Intense Fortifying Masque is great for a hair type 1 because unlike the many hair masks that can weigh this fine hair type down, when applied properly (avoid the roots and work in a tiny blob just from the mid-length to the ends) this will leave your hair “ting”, “ting” shiny and feeling oh so good.
Hair type 2 – Coloring your hair every two weeks hair type 2’s? Those greys can be the kryptonite for your thick and lustrous hair. Tousled recommends Joico K-Pak Color Therapy Luster Lock Instant Shine & Repair Treatment to strengthen and claims to make 9x’s stronger (we’ll have to verify that claim) but the word on the street is that this product is legit!
