There are more than a few of you who are praying for a resurrection today. Maybe you’re looking in the mirror and thinking, “Okay hair! OKAY HAIR! Yes, it’s been a minute since there has been professional care lavished in your general direction, but I need you to work with me! COME FORTH!”

Open your eyes and stop crossing yourself. It doesn’t work that way.

But a resurrection may just be possible… how you ask? Read on!

The best kinds of hair care comes straight from the fridge. Cash strapped and/or hate to waste produce that you spent hard earned money on? Consider or reconsider tossing out some of the nutrient rich items in your veggie and fruit basket and repurpose them into a moisturizing mask of the resurrection.

I went on a fridge raid and did some research and came up with three great masks!

Let’s get started!

Strawberries -

Packed with Vitamin C, strawberries are extremely beneficial for your hair. They’re not only helpful in nourishing your locks but also, have the ability to get rid of any excess oil buildup from your scalp. Magnesium and copper present in strawberries are all essential for healthy hair. If dandruff bringing you down, strawberries can actually help! Rich in Vitamin C, strawberries make for one of the major ingredients that fight dandruff! Hooray! Those strawberries will not be going to the bin they will be going on my head in my new mask!

Strawberry Dandruff Soothie

  •  Blend about 8-10 strawberries in a mixture and scoop out the grainy paste and empty it into a bowl.

  • Add a few drops almond oil or carrier oil of your choice. My favorite is grapeseed oil

  • Mix the oil and strawberry paste together well.

  • Apply this paste to your scalp and leave it on for about 45 minutes.

  • Wash out the mask using a mild cleanser of your choice and cold water for maximum results.

Avocado -

An avocado hair mask can do wonders for your hair. First things first , avocado is a fruit, not a vegetable and actually belongs in the berry family. Loaded with potassium (nearly twice as much as bananas), and amino acids, this creamy power food is hard to beat. I used to whip up avocado hair masks for friends with super different hair types and all were madly in love with the results. My homemade avocado mask delivered smooth, shiny and hydrated hair from type 1 to type 4 without fail! In ancient Egypt, people used avocado to prevent hair loss and as a natural moisturizer. Today we still use it for its moisturizing properties; it makes hair shiny and supple and keeps the hair and skin moisturized. Perhaps the best way to utilize the avocado’s many beneficial properties for hair is as a mask.

Peppy Avocado Potion

This avocado, honey, and olive oil lock moisture into your hair, while the peppermint tea invigorates the scalp, leaving you with luscious, moisturized locks and a fresh, clean feeling.

  • Mash up one avocado (I use avocados that are overripe and can’t be eaten anymore), in a bowl.

  • Add

  • one tablespoon of honey

  • one tablespoon of olive oil

  • one tablespoon of loose peppermint tea or mint if you have that going to pot in your fridge

  • Mix well

Massage into your hair, concentrating on your ends, and let sit for about 30 minutes. Wash and condition your hair as usual.

Bananas -

Banana is an excellent source of vitamins, magnesium, potassium, and silicon. Silicon compounds (like silica) strengthen the cuticle layer of hair by aligning the tile like components of the outer layer. This makes the hair shine and protects it from damage. Banana and its peel have antimicrobial properties. This suggests that it can help keep fungal infections, like dandruff, away. Banana’s also condition your hair and replenishes your hair making it soft and bouncy. Try this hair mask that restore its luster and strengthen your hair.

The Blended Banana Bounce

  • In a blender (because you MUST ensure that there are NO CHUNKS of banana in this mask, or you’ll never get it out of your hair if there are chunks).

  • scoop out half of a leaf of aloe vera into the blender

  • Add two medium size overripe bananas to the blender

  • Add 2 - 3 tablespoons of plain yogurt

  • Switch on that blender and let it go until its smooth as silk - yep its going to be a bit slimy because of the aloe vera.

Apply the mask from roots to tips, concentrating on the scalp. Once well coated, put your hair in a bun and into a disposable shower cap (I have been known to use a plastic shopping bag in a pinch) Leave the mask on for 30 minutes. Rinse your hair well and then shampoo with your preferred cleanser.

And there you have it. Use every bit of what you have to hand and get your hair beautiful. The hair masks above work for all hair types because they are all natural. Unless you have a specifically challenging condition or allergy go ahead and try them out.
