You've Been Influenced: Celebrity Hair Care Lines

Celebrities have been diversifying their endorsement portfolios for a long time now. Translation. Celebrities have been making BANK off YOU and ME selling us dreams of glory and grandeur at the local supermarket by endorsing everything we consume.

We may have seen celebrities endorsing particular products since mass media became a thing with the advent of the newspaper. But it does seem to be everywhere now, doesn’t it? Think about it. It’s not just some random model who is pushing a product anymore. It seems companies have evolved as a result to engaging celebrities as founders, owners, and shareholders. In doing so, they better align their brand to the individuals promoting them and allow for greater authenticity. Think Gwyneth Paltrow (Goop), Jessica Alba (Honest Company) and Jennifer Garner (Once Upon a Farm).

In the hair care world, we haven’t had too many celebrity founder/owners of hair care lines. Enter Tracee Ellis Ross, CEO & Founder of Pattern. Tracee Ellis Ross has a great hair story about how she wrangled, wrestled and struggled her hair into a damaged uncared-for mess before finally embracing her natural curl pattern. After many years of showing us how it’s done through envy inducing magazine covers, Ellis Ross consciously developed a hair care line to help the rest of us. Of course it was bound to be well received because through her starring roles on the early 2000’s tv show Girlfriends and her continuing success on Blackish we know Ms. Ellis Ross like she’s one of our dearest girlfriend’s.

The phenomenon is catching on. The 90’s Boy Meets World star, Danielle Fishel who was a hair icon in her own right back in the day and who is now riding the 90’s nostalgia train, (although not as visible or famous as Ellis Ross), has developed Be Free. A cruelty-free, vegan, no toxins, no parabens, no sulfates no unnecessary and questionable ingredients hair care line inspired by her desire to lead a “clean” lifestyle upon becoming pregnant, without sacrificing the shine and bounce that sometimes gets sacrificed when going all natural.
