The Tools for Dazzling Coily Hair

There is nothing more lethal than the wrong tool applied to tightly coiled hair. Hair type 4’s are you with me? Not only can you end up in knots (I have really powerfully thick hair and have broken a comb in my hair before). What could I do but laugh? Poor implement… you lost! HA!

It is so important to be mindful of the tools you use to settle the coils and kinks in your hair. Remember this mantra. Type 4 hair is like cashmere. Wash it gently, rinse in cold water, wear it out seldom, coax it back into shape after the washing process and wear it FOREVER!

The only the best tools will do for this hair type and we recommend a few to prolong the life and luster of your beautiful cashmere like coils.

  1. Tangle Teezer - So since discovering the Tangle Teezer I have several sizes and variations that I use in every bag and use most every day. This award winning brush made in the U.K. is like no other and I swear I’m a devotee! I have multiple sizes and colors and its SO inexpensive that getting a new one after gunking up the old one doesn’t make me shriek and keel over. Getting through the knots and craziness that I can subject my hair to has been made 1000x easier with the tangle teezer! I recommend it for sure as your next purchase. They also sell mini’s for your purse/briefcase.

  2. The Felicia Leatherwood Detangling Brush - Have you heard of the formidable and baddest stylist in the hair type 4 natural world Felicia Leatherwood? If you haven’t you should get a pen and paper immediately! She’s amazing and has recently developed a line of detangling brushes especially for hair type 4’s that we can’t wait to get our hands on! I haven’t tried it just yet but the reviews are in and people are raving! At $18.99 on Amazon, we think its worth a try! Into the shopping cart it goes! LOL!

  3. Denman Gentle Styling Brush - there is no product list that is complete for the curlies and coilies among us that doesn’t include the Denman brush. Talk about an oldie but a goodie. This brush is it for the ages. People have whole YouTube videos on modifying a Denman. These brushes are great because the bristles are wide-set and will help detangle without snagging your hair. Plus, they help with smoothing before you begin the styling process.

There you have it, an all-star line up of brushes for the curly coily and blessed among you. Please let us know what you think of this line up. Do you have any tools you would like to recommend? Please let us know what you think in the description box below.
